The ecomuseum before...
The Marais Salant Ecomuseum was established in 1997 to ensure the long-term continuation of the conservation and promotion efforts initiated by the Groupement d’Etudes Rétaises in 1982, when the Maison du Marais Salant was founded.
What is an ecomuseum?
A concept inspired by nature
A concept co-developed by Georges Henri Rivière and Hugues de Varine, first tested in 1968 in regional nature parks—including the La Grande Lande Ecomuseum (Marquèze)—and in 1971 in Le Creusot, the ecomuseum has since evolved.
The team
Versatility and cross-functional collaboration to serve visitors
Responsive and motivated, and in constant contact with various local stakeholders, the team—composed of permanent staff, seasonal workers, and interns—carries out daily activities that help achieve the scientific and cultural objectives of the project.
With responsibilities spanning administration, communications, public outreach, site maintenance, and salt harvesting, the tasks are numerous. Versatility and cross-functional collaboration enable us to optimize our operations, provide visitors with high-quality services, and contribute to the region’s development.
